All I want for Christmas is you è una canzone
della cantante americana Mariah Carey e
di Walter Afanasieff, registrata per il quinto
album della cantante Merry Christmas
del 1994. Nel brano, la protagonista dichiara
di non essere interessata ai regali materiali
o alle luci natalizie, e l'unica cosa che davvero
desidera è di stare con il proprio innamorato.
E' stato pubblicato come primo singolo dell'album
nel dicembre 1994, ed è entrato nella
Top Ten di diverse nazioni.
Secondo il The New Yorker, la canzone è una
delle poche aggiunte moderne ai canoni
natalizi. Nonostante molti pensino che la Carey
abbia semplicemente eseguito una cover
del brano, in realtà la cantante, insieme a
Walter Afanasieff, è l'autrice del brano, nonché
l'interprete originale. In seguito, della canzone ne
sono state interpretate delle cover da Shana Twain
e Samantha Mumba, dai My Chemical Romance
e della girl band The Cheetah Girls,
recentemente anche da Michael Bublè.
E' stata anche cantata da Olivia Olson
nel film Love Actually del 2003.
Nel 2006 è diventata la suoneria natalizia
più venduta di tutti i tempi.
